Yatai Ramen and Yakitori – My TOP PICK of Asian Restaurants in Savannah
We love to try new places, but dang it, we just keep going back to Yatai Ramen and Yakitori. One of the most unique restaurants in Savannah, Yatai’s décor is a highlight of a meal there. Yes, the ramen and Japanese street food nibbles are delicious, but the Anime Last Supper and Pokémon art add to the experience.
What I love about Yatai’s menu is the build-your-own ramen section. Choose from a variety of broths, proteins and noodle types to make your ideal Japanese dinner. The yakitori options are also delicious, with skewered chicken and shrimp, or even fried tofu. Lots of great options!
The Vault Kitchen and Market
The Vault Kitchen and Market is a renovated bank turned industrially chic eatery. Their menu offers a unique take on American comfort food classics with an Asian twist. I think this is one of the best examples of an Asian fusion restaurant in Savannah. Bestsellers include the savory charcoal chicken, turmeric chicken, and the Crying Tiger. The Vault is also proud to serve locally sourced ingredients and products whenever possible. It is the perfect place to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat with friends!
Note: the Vault Kitchen and Market is NOT in the immediate downtown Historic District, but to the south past Forsyth Park. It’s in the Starland Metropolitan neighborhood (close to our apartment) so it’s a bit of a walk, but totally worth it.
Fire Street Food
Fire Street Food is another great option for Asian cuisine in the Historic District. This restaurant specializes in Vietnamese street food and has a wide selection of meat and vegetarian options. They also offer sushi and borrow from all sorts of other Asian cuisines. Their popular dishes include pho, banh mi, and spring rolls. One thing that makes Fire Street Food so unique is its use of fresh, local ingredients.
Something I really enjoy about Fire Street Food is just the general vibe. It’s very clean and bright and when you’re inside you forget that you’re actually in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District. It’s a great break from the brick and Spanish moss of the neighborhood.
E-TANG
E-TANG is a Chinese restaurant located at the eastern side of the Historic District, kind of at the start of the Victorian District of Savannah. They are most well-known for their authentic Sichuan cuisine. Some of their most popular dishes include mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, and beef with broccoli. One thing that makes E-TANG unique is its use of traditional Sichuan ingredients and cooking techniques. This gives their food an authentic flavor that you can’t find at most other Chinese or Asian restaurants in Savannah. If you’re looking for an authentic Sichuan dining experience, then E-TANG is the place for you!
BONUS: E-TANG also has soup dumplings, bao and other wonderful Chinese standards. Even though it’s not directly in the main restaurant area of the Historic District, it’s only a few minutes walk eastward and is totally worth the visit. Also, this is a good place to eat with kids that like international foods.
Coco and Moss
Coco and Moss restaurant is a Japanese-inspired café that serves Poke bowls, sushi and other Japanese fares. They have signature cocktails that are perfect for starting a cocktail crawl. The bestsellers at Coco and Moss are the Poke bowls packed with fresh fish, rice, and vegetables. Sushi is also very popular and made with only the freshest ingredients. The uniqueness of this restaurant is its contemporary twist on traditional Japanese cuisine. This makes it a must-try for anyone visiting Savannah.
Something else that I like about Coco and Moss is the decor. I’m a sucker for vintage style and the interior of Coco and Moss combines elements of Art Deco, Asian restaurant vibes and 1940s streamliner looks. Really cool (and good cocktails too!). Be patient when you arrive, as we’ve never had a speedy service experience at Coco and Moss, but we like it so keep going back.
Flying Monk Noodle Bar – Busiest Asian Restaurant in Savannah
Flying Monk Noodle Bar is another excellent choice for Asian cuisine in the Historic District. This restaurant specializes in Japanese ramen noodles and has a wide variety of meat and vegetarian options. Their most popular dishes include their Tonkotsu Ramen, Shoyu Ramen, and Miso Ramen. One of the things that makes Flying Monk Noodle Bar so unique is their focus on using fresh, local ingredients.
Tip: the Flying Monk Noodle Bar gets really busy and if you’re arriving at peak dinner time, you’ll have a long wait. They’re fast with the cooking and serving, but it is a popular spot!
Flock to the Wok
Flock to the Wok is a great option for Asian cuisine in the Historic District. This restaurant specializes in Chinese stir-fry, and they offer a wide variety of both meat and vegetarian options. This restaurant offers a terrific menu of Japanese and Chinese dishes and a sushi bar. Some of their most popular food include their Sushi Rolls, Pad Thai, and General Tso’s Chicken. One of the things that makes Ta Ca Asian Fusion & Sushi Bar so unique is their friendly staff and relaxed, well-designed place.
Ruan Thai Cuisine Savannah
Ruan Thai Cuisine Savannah is an excellent choice for those looking for delicious Thai food in the Historic District, and it’s directly on Broughton Street a few doors down from the Flying Monk Noodle Bar. Sushi Hana
Is it bad that each time we come to Sushi Hana I actually get the yakisoba? I love it. The sushi rolls and nigiri style offerings are so very fresh and delicious, but the noodle dishes are my favorite thing to order when we have dinner at Sushi Hana. One reason we keep returning to this Historic District restaurant is because it’s not just tasty, but really speedy. We’ve never had to wait long to be seated, served or to have our food. I love its consistency.
PJ Thai
PJ Thai is a terrific option for those looking for Thai food when you’re strolling the neighborhoods of Savannah. Located right by the Colonial Park Cemetery (an amazing place to explore!) it’s actually one of the few Asian restaurants in Savannah that has outdoor seating. Some of their most flavorsome dishes include Pad Thai, Red Curry, and Green Curry. PJ Thai also has a full bar with a wide selection of refreshing beverages.
Peking House Restaurant
Peking House Restaurant is one of the most popular pick-up Asian restaurants (even if it looks a bit not-awesome from the outside) in the Victorian District, South of Gaston. They offer a variety of Chinese and Szechuan dishes that are sure to please any appetite. You can get both traditional Chinese dishes and American-Chinese favorites, including Beijing Duck, Kung Pao Chicken, and General Tso’s Chicken. Boomys Restaurant is a casual, energetic Asian restaurant (and watering hole) located in the downtown Historic District of Savannah. They offer a wide variety of drinks and Thai and Vietnamese dishes. Their most popular items include their pho noodle soup and spring rolls. What makes Boomys unique is both that they are one of the few pho places in Savannah AND their friendly and inviting atmosphere – perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family.
