Cruises and Small Ship Sailing Discounts

People love to visit Alaska via cruise ship, but it doesn’t have to be one of the mega ships. Between the bigger cruise companies and the small ship sailing options, we’ve got some great ways to enjoy discounts in booking Alaska on the water.

The Boat Company – Sailing from Juneau or Sitka

Did you know that there is actually a non-profit cruise line that does expedition sailings in Southeast Alaska? That’s right! The Boat Company is a wonderful group of people sharing the Tongass National Forest and waters of the Inside Passage with guests, and they’re dedicated to reinvesting their profits into conservation, education, legal battles on behalf of the Forest and more. Also, the Boat Company is the BEST fishing sailing you can book, with options for halibut, salmon, fly fishing, shrimping and more all included in you booking. It’s incredible.

UnCruise Adventures – Sailing from Juneau, Ketchikan, Seward and more

We absolutely love the UnCruise Adventures style of exploring. When it comes to small ship cruises, UnCruise does a phenomenal job. Most of their Alaska sailings depart from Juneau, which is very easy to get to from Seattle, making UnCruise an easy choice for a small ship experience on the Inside Passage.

Car Rental Discounts

Most people coming to Alaska won’t need to have anything more than a standard rental car if they’re doing a one week road trip, or even if they’re doing a two week Alaska road trip. The main highways are very well maintained considering the insanity of weather fluctuation (yes, there are some potholes and rogue rocks sometimes), so sedans and midsized SUVs are great options. Most visitors will likely be traveling on the primary Alaska highways such as the Parks, Glenn and Seward Highways. It’s always nice to have a 4WD car though, especially if you want the option of some of the more remote areas.

GoNorth Alaska 4WD Rentals – Anchorage and Fairbanks

Did you know that a lot of roads and highways are RESTRICTED by rental car companies? It’s true, and due to GPS tracking if you venture onto the Denali Highway or the Dalton Highway, you’ll be breaking their rules and subject to fines and more. BUT WE HAVE A SOLUTION!!!

Our preferred unrestricted rental company in Alaska is GoNorth Alaska 4WD Rentals. They have a big fleet of 4WD cars and SUVs and allow you to travel on the gravel highways of AK. They also rent campers and RVs (some restrictions or fees with these) so you can enjoy all that Alaska has to offer through its highway system.

Standard Alaska Car Rentals

For the Alaska visitors that’s sticking to the primary highways and not planning anything too wild, a standard vehicle is usually good for the basic Alaska road trip or exploring around Anchorage. If you only need a rental car for this sort of trip, perfect! We like using Expedia as they provide the best range of rates and you can get a discount using rewards. I also like that they integrate hotel and car bookings into their app very well.

RV and Camper Rentals through GoNorth Alaska

Like with many rental cars, there are restrictions to where some RVs are allowed to drive. GoNorth Alaska has a large fleet of RVs and campers base in Anchorage and Fairbanks that make it so your biggest Alaskan camping dreams can come true. There are some gravel-road-fees that may occur with certain routes, but the options are fantastic.
